Hello & Welcome!
Hi, I’m
Katie. I have always been a voracious
reader and am known among my friends for being a bookworm – a term that always
makes me think of the very hungry caterpillar!
I am frequently asked for book recommendations and with the current
situation people’s reading has increased, so I thought I would start this blog
to help others discover some of the fantastic fiction I have been so enjoying. I am slightly jealous of you as you get to
read these amazing books for the very first time!
I am
generally a book-a-week kind of reader, but now that I am no longer having to
commute to work combined with the evenings being lighter for longer, I am
getting through more books than ever! This
is a slight problem for me with the libraries being closed – I used to make a
trip to the library at least once a month – but I did manage to borrow 10 books
just before they closed their doors. I
am a “traditional” reader, preferring actual paper books to ebooks, so have always
made good use of local libraries – I often joke that I can’t afford to fund my habit,
buying books all the time, not to mention bookcase storage! However, when I do inevitably run out of new
books to read, I have plenty of fantastic novels in my house that I can merrily
re-read. And writing this blog may well
slow down my pace!
I have
decided to purely feature books I would recommend. Now I personally don’t like to know too much
about a book prior to reading it – I even try to avoid reading front and back
covers! So I will endeavour to not tell
you too much about each book. I will
talk about the genre, main characters, basic plot, writing style etc. and why I
enjoyed reading it. Where I feel I am in
danger of spoiling the book I will give a **SPOILER ALERT**. So if you are like me, you may want to hold
off reading that section until after you have read the book. You have been warned!!
I love
talking about books and analysing them (would you guess I studied English?!)
and am, of course, part of a book club where I get to air my opinions, which I
do, frequently, but also am challenged to read books, genres and styles I would
not naturally choose. And I invite you
to add book suggestions as well as comments on my book reviews in the comments
section. Please be polite and
respectful.
